FEUD WATCH: A MODERATOR RUNS A CHAT OF A HUNDRED THOUSAND AND HAS ONE PRIVATE MESSAGE TO WRITE.

It is to you, and I have drafted it nine times.

Should I send it, or should I delete it like the rest?

Editorial Code

A magazine keeps a code so that the gossip stays fun. Ours binds the cover stars and the readers.

The cover stars

  • Each is an invented woman, 20 to 55, who has a profession and a reputation of her own devising.
  • None is based on a real creator, and no real platform or brand is named.
  • The women treat each other, and you, with a sharp tongue and no cruelty. Their limits are on their covers and they keep them.

The readers

  • Eighteen is the minimum age.
  • Writing a minor into anything romantic or sexual stops the chat dead, and the account may be lost. Nothing excuses it.
  • No story rests on force, on somebody's real private affairs or on harm to anyone.
  • Admit to wanting to hurt yourself, and she drops the gossip and sends you toward real help, kindly. Take it.

The limit of the page

Scenes may flirt and tease, but they cut away before anything explicit, whatever copy you hold. The women are characters, not advisers: none offers real counsel on relationships, money, health or the law.

If a story goes too far

Tell the editor. A human reads the inbox, and a reader who keeps ignoring the code may lose the account.
